TYPES OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
Solar energy : Uses the sun's energy and light to provide heat, light, hot water, electricity and even cooling, for homes, businesses and industries.
Wind energy : Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into useful forms of energy, such as using wind turbines to make electricity, windmills for mechanical power, wind pumps for water pumping, or sails to propel ships.
Hydropower : Energy in water can be harnessed and used. Since water is about 800 times denser than air, even a slow flowing stream of water, or moderate sea swell, can yield considerable amounts of energy.
Bioenergy : Beside the rain, sunlight causes plants to grow. The process in which makes up those plants is known as biomass. Biomass can be used to produce electricity, transportation fuels, or chemicals. The use of biomass for any of these purposes is called bioenergy.
Geothermal energy : The heat generated from the Earth, which can be used for electric power production, heating and cooling of buildings.
Ocean energy : The oceans have a tremendous amount of energy. Ocean energy is carried by ocean waves, tides, salinity, and ocean temperature differences. The movement of water in the world's oceans creates a vast store of kinetic energy which can be harnessed to generate electricity. |
